On September 17th and 18th 2021 Audio & Lighting Services provided production for the local, growing Under the Trees Music and Arts Festival right here in my back yard; namely Boyne Island, Central Queensland.

This was the fourth year of the program and was delivered with the added issues surrounding COVID health restrictions.

While planning for the event had the additional time brought about by a non productive year, we also needed to upscale our production commitments for this event. Needless to say, doing that without a years’ income proved difficult.

I had started to build my stock of the dBTechnologies VIO S318 some four years ago and then the VIO L210 just two years ago. While there was a shortage of product available immediately, NAS was helpful with locating distributed product that allowed me to complete the rig in time for this event.

The 18 hour drive north to Airlie Beach was truly worth it. Negotiations took place, costs agreed to and we were off and running!

When I returned back to home base, it was straight to the scaffold to implement the speaker components. This turned out to be simple and straightforward, even without using the RD Network, instead using the tables on the rear panels for alignment and SPL settings.

Without a doubt, the VIO’s performance was as expected – excellent.

The front end comprised of a total of 8x VIO L210 tops and 2x VIO S318 subs.

Foldback was a similar story, minus the urgency of build time.

We had 6x DVX DM28’s in the front line. Their performance was excellent – louder than expected and far more accurate in reproduction than a lot of rivals. The added benefit of the low profile meant more to see for the audience with nothing bulging in front of the artists up on stage.

Upstage, we had 2x LVX XM12’s, being for drum kit and bass, etc. Again, pure engagement with the sound reproduction.

So, that was the main system in its basic form.

We used our original system on the second stage at the event. This part of the event was held within a marquee with seating capacity of around 160 PAX.

This DVA system comprised of 2x S10 subs and 6x T4 tops in a ground mounted configuration – we have had these for some time now and they never let us down.

In fact, we have enjoyed natural sound and high performance from all of our dBTechnologies stock, and we have a fair bit more from across the range of system models available.

We also supplied all the lighting and some portable staging as well as the technical crew that manned the event.
