David Claringbold, d&b audiotechnik’s CMO, talks exclusively to Chris Holder at ISE 2022 about Soundscape and, more generally, where immersive audio and object-based mixing is headed.

d&b audiotechnik used ISE to give immersive audio a reboot. After an hour-long recap of the fundamentals we listened to a real-life string quartet, hearing d&b’s En Space feature in action. Then we joined the quartet on stage to hear the virtual sound shell created for the musicians using Soundscape and En Space. It was magical.

Speaking to d&b’s David Claringbold (a name well known to Australians thanks to his long association with the Sydney Opera House), he confirmed that he now has ‘creatives’ approaching d&b, looking to Soundscape to play a vital role in providing audiences with an exceptional experience. It’s amazing how much PA can be spec’ed or installed if the creative director or event producer is demanding it!
